Product Description: The Marshall Stamping Company Area Walls are manufactured in four styles: Round, Straight, Square and Casement.
Standard Grade: 22 Gauge
AW: Standard Width Standard Grade Area Walls were developed as a cost effective product for the standard basement window and are made from 22 gauge, minimum G-60 hot-dipped galvanized steel. Standard Grade Area Walls are available in either round or straight styles with a width of 37” and a nominal height from 12” to 48”
AWFV: Foundation Vent Area Walls are the Standard Width Area Wall companion product for foundation vent applications. Foundation Vent Area Walls are made from 22 gauge, minimum G-60 hot-dipped galvanized steel and are available in a width of 18” and a nominal height of 12".
Regular Grade: 20 Gauge
ARR: The Round Style Regular Grade Area Walls are made from 20 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel. The Round Style Regular Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading for the small basement window application configured with a width of 37”, a 16” projection, and range in actual height from 12” to 48”.
ARB: The Round Style Buck Regular Grade Area Walls are made from 20 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel. The Round Style Buck Regular Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading to attach to the buck type metal basement window frame with a width of 32”, a 16” projection, and range in actual height from 12” to 48”.
ASR: The Straight Style Regular Grade Area Walls are made from 20 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel. The Straight Style Regular Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading for the small basement window application configured with a width of 37”, a 12” projection, and range in actual height from 12” to 48”.
Commercial Grade: 18 Gauge
ARC: The Round Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are made from 18 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel. The Round Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading for the intermediate size basement window in any configuration of width, height or projection.
ASC: The Straight Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are made from 18 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel with 9” radius corners. The Straight Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading for the larger size basement window in any configuration of width, height or projection.
AQC: The Square Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are made from 18 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel with 4” radius corners. The Square Style Commercial Grade Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading applications when necessary to maximize the open area in relation to the perimeter of the area wall. The square style is available in any configuration of width, height or projection.
ACC: The Casement Style Commercial Grade Non-Egress Area Walls are made from 18 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel with 9” radius corners. The Casement Style Commercial Grade Non-Egress Area Walls are designed for normal soil loading for the larger size basement window in any configuration of width, height or projection.

The Casement Style Extra Heavy Grade Non-Egress Area Walls are designed for heavy or expansive soil conditions for the larger basement windows in any configuration of width, height or projection.
AEX: IRC310.2 Compliant Casement Style Extra Heavy Grade Egress Area Walls are made from 16 gauge, G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel with 9” radius corners. The Casement Style Extra Heavy Grade Egress Area Walls are designed for heavy or expansive soil conditions for the larger basement windows in any configuration of width, height or projection.

2003 International Residential Code
R310.2 Window wells: Window wells required for emergency escape and rescue shall have horizontal dimensions that allow the door or window of the emergency escape and rescue opening to be fully opened. The horizontal dimensions of the window well shall provide a minimum net clear area of 9 square feet (0.84m2) with a minimum horizontal projection and width of 36 inches (914mm).
Exception: The ladder or steps required by Section R310.2.1 shall be permitted to encroach a minimum of 6 inches (152mm) into the required dimensions of the window well.
R310.2.1 Ladder and Steps: Window wells with a vertical depth greater than 44 inches (1118mm) below the adjacent ground level shall be equipped with a permanently affixed ladder or steps usable with the window in the fully opened position. Ladders or step required by this section shall not be required to comply with Section R314 and R315. Ladders or rungs shall have an inside width of at least 12 inches (305mm), shall project at least 3 inches (76mm) from the wall and shall be spaced not more than 18 inches (457 mm) on center vertically for the full height of the window well.
R310.4 Bars, grills, covers and screens: Bars, grills, covers, and screens or similar devices are permitted to be placed over emergency escape and rescue openings, bulkhead enclosures, or window wells that serve such openings, provided the minimum net clear opening size complies with Section R310.1 to R310.1.3, and such devices shall be releasable or movable from the inside without the use of a key, tool or force greater than that which is required for normal operation of the escape and rescue opening. |
